Updated 26 September 2026. Slope Minder is made by Joe Pantuso.
Slope Minder shows the people you ski with where each other are and what each of you is doing, while you choose to share, and then forgets. This page says exactly what that takes.
What leaves your phone
Nothing, unless you ski with a group. Browsing resorts and a solo session need no account and send nothing to us.
When you start or join a group, you sign in with Apple. We keep:
- An account: an identifier Apple gives us for you (not your email), the name you choose, and the avatar emoji if you pick one.
- Your groups: their names, who is in them, when each person joined or left, and when each group ends.
While you share your position with a group, your phone sends its position, what it thinks you are doing (moving, riding, stopped, and the run or lift where it knows one), any status you set, and your battery level. It is end-to-end encrypted for the phones of the people in your group: each phone has its own keys, made on the phone and never sent anywhere, and our server passes the encrypted position on without being able to read it. The server holds it in memory only, forgets it within twelve hours or whenever it restarts, and never writes it to disk, so there is no history of where anyone has been. Stopping sharing, leaving a group, or the group ending removes it at once. What the server does see is who is in each group and when each phone sends.
Where there is no signal. While you share with a group at a resort, your phone counts, for each area about 100 metres across, how often it could reach our server, and sends only those counts. They carry no account, no time and no path, and the server adds them to everyone else's to learn where the mountain has no signal.
What stays on your phone
- The day's recording: the position, motion and barometer readings the app uses to tell a lift from a run. It is kept in the app's own storage, never uploaded, and you can share a day's file yourself from Settings. Deleting the app deletes it.
- Your settings, including how you prefer to see people (avatars or initials).
Apple Health and Apple Watch
To keep GPS accurate while you share, the app can run a workout. On the phone that workout is thrown away when you stop unless you turn on saving it to Health. On Apple Watch, a Slope Minder workout is saved to Health like any other, and the Watch reads your heart rate to show it to you. We never receive your Health data.
What we do not do
No advertising, no tracking across other apps or websites, no selling or sharing data with anyone, no analytics services, and no history of your movements.
Deleting your account
Settings, Delete account. It removes your account and the groups you started at once. Backups of the account database are kept for 30 days and then deleted.
